Launch Party and AGM Press Release

Winnipeg added to Canada’s network of Internet Exchange Points

Public invited to MBIX’s first-ever Annual General Meeting

Winnipeg – September 24, 2013 – A coalition of community partners and the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (www.CIRA.ca), will launch Canada’s newest Internet exchange point (IXP) in Winnipeg on September 25, 2013. The establishment of the Manitoba Internet Exchange (MBIX) represents another key step toward creating a more robust domestic Internet for Canada.

Over the past two years, CIRA has been working closely with interested community members in major cities across Canada to support the creation of an expanded IXP infrastructure. In April 2013, the Montreal Internet Exchange was launched in Montreal, a direct result of CIRA’s initiative.

MBIX Launch Party, Sept 25

MBIX is hosting a launch party on Wednesday September 25, 2013 at the King’s Head Pub starting at 5:30pm. Come and join us to celebrate the creation of the fifth Canadian Internet Exchange. Thanks to CIRA for sponsoring this event.

Our founding AGM will occur prior to the Launch Party at 4:30pm.

Please let us know if you are coming rsvp at mbix.ca. All interested parties are welcome.

Akamai tweaking ongoing

For anyone watching our traffic graphs, you might wonder why the traffic is not the regular ebb and flow typically seen on IXPs.  The majority of the traffic is flowing through Akamai, and they have not yet finalized the configuration which will lead to stable traffic flows.  The work to tweak the node for correct performance is ongoing, so we may still see large surges until work is completed.

Hurricane Electric joins MBIX

Hurricane Electric, a major international ISP, has joined MBIX on a 10 Gig port.  They are currently peering with the route servers on IPv4, and IPv6 will come shortly, as soon as we are comfortable with its operation.  HE.net is sharing about 16,000 IPv4 routes, and 7,000 IPv6 routes.  Nice to see more ISPs joining, and sharing their routes.
